Hi,
As the parent of a young child with a disability I know the critical nature of early intervention services. I am a family representive on the Interagency Coordinating Council. The ICC is a required component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The charge of the ICC is to advise the lead agency for ealry intervention in a state; here in Arizona the lead agency is DES/AzEIP. Each state's ICC must include representatives of each state agency that provides services to infants and toddlers, private providers of early intervention services and parents of children under the age of 12 who have received early intervention services. I currently serve as the ICC chair.
I am writing today to encourage people to join the ICC's committees. We are currently accepting applications for our two main committee's: Structure and Flow--which is concerned with the structure of AzEIP and the flow of communication between and amongst all of our partners and Education and Collaboration which is concerend with ensuring that all stakeholders understand the participation-based nature of early intervention and that providers and families understand IDEA and their rights and responsibilities under the law. Applications are due June 30, 2009 to the DES/AzEIP offices. I have attached a PDF of the application--when you open it you can click on tools and go to typewriter to fill in the information. The ICC Executive Committee will meet on July 14, 2009 to make final commiteee assignments and our next ICC meeting will be held on August 14, 2009. In the meantime the ICC and its members continue to work on issues related to the FY 2009 and FY 2010 budget, interagency cooperation and the DES/AzEIP Family Cost Participation Proposal.
